A Chilling Scene Unfolds at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ogun State
Just as the school day was getting underway at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, a gas leak sent shockwaves through the premises on April 1, 2026. The frightening incident hospitalized no less than 30 students and a teacher, who were rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the gas leak triggered widespread panic as students and staff struggled to breathe in the gaseous atmosphere. At least several students were forced to collapse after inhaling the substance, prompting an emergency response from the school. Sources close to the situation reported that students began vomiting and fainting, prompting the school to call for ambulances.
While some initial speculations suggested that the leak might have been caused by a nearby gas explosion, others pointed to a possible chemical odour from the school laboratory during a practical session. It's reported that a piece of equipment may have fallen during the exercise, releasing a gaseous substance that spread across the school.
In a statement, Mrs Adeola Borogun, the Vice Principal (Junior School), dismissed reports of an explosion, attributing the incident to a strange chemical smell within the premises.
