Nigerian Navy Takes a Stand Against Illicit Migration
In a significant move, the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS BEECROFT, has handed over three Ghanaian migrants to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). These individuals were rescued from a merchant vessel, MT ANATOLIA, after attempting to sneak onto the ship. According to Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, this handover is part of an ongoing effort to collaborate with security agencies to prevent illegal migration and ensure maritime safety.
The incident took place on April 1, 2026, at NNS BEECROFT's parade ground in Apapa, Lagos State. Commodore Adams-Aliu explained that the three suspects, Armah Peter (26), Amisah Daniel (22), and Amoh Michael (25), had earlier traveled from Ghana to Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, where they engaged in fishing activities for about a year. However, they later attempted to gain access to the rudder compartment of MT ANATOLIA using a canoe, with the intention of traveling to Europe without authorization.
Fortunately, the crew of MT ANATOLIA detected the stowaways after several hours at sea, and they were subsequently rescued.
