Big News for Travelers: Lagos International Airport Scores a $500 Million Facelift
The Nigerian government is pulling out all the stops to modernize the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, with a whopping $500 million investment to upgrade the airport's infrastructure. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, made the announcement at the Aircraft Acquisition and Investment Summit in Lagos on April 1.
Lagos is set to become a leading aviation hub in Africa, and the Nigerian government is determined to make it happen. The massive investment in MMIA is a testament to the country's ambitions in the aviation industry. According to Minister Keyamo, the project has already kicked off, with contractors on site and a completion deadline of just 22 months.
"We didn't borrow the money," Keyamo emphasized. "President Bola Tinubu made the funds available in cash, and we're confident that the project will be a huge success." With the redevelopment set to transform the airport, travelers can expect a world-class experience in the near future. And it's not just MMIA that's getting a makeover – the President has also approved plans to build a second runway in Abuja, which will resume construction immediately.
