Tiger Woods has been given a green light by a Florida judge to travel outside of the US in search of specialized medical treatment following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. Woods' lawyer, Douglas Duncan, had submitted a request to travel on Wednesday, highlighting the golfer's pressing need for an intensive, highly personalized program that can't be found within the country. The attorney argued that the 50-year-old golf legend requires a level of care that's not available domestically, and that the constant media and public attention has made it difficult for him to focus on his recovery.
After a teleconference with Judge Darren Steele, the motion was approved, allowing Woods to seek treatment in a foreign facility. In his request, Duncan explained that Woods' doctor had recommended this course of action due to the golfer's complex medical situation and the urgent need for a level of care that can't be met in the US. The constant scrutiny and exposure, he said, would hinder Woods' progress and make it difficult for him to fully engage in treatment.
Woods had previously announced on social media that he's taking a temporary break from his life to focus on his health and recovery. "I'm stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and prioritize my well-being," he said. "This is necessary for me to work toward lasting recovery."
