A Scavenger's Slip-Up: N1.5m Cable Theft Lands Him in Court
In Akure, a 35-year-old scavenger is facing serious trouble after being accused of stealing high-value cable wires and electrical equipment from a filling station. Suleiman Adams has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates Court on charges of conspiracy and stealing, which allegedly took place on March 10, 2026, at the Bolcent Oil and Gas Filling Station in Shasha Market. According to the prosecution, Adams conspired with an accomplice who is still at large to steal the valuable items, which are estimated to be worth N1.5 million.
The stolen items belonged to Gbenga Bajulaye, the owner of the filling station. The charges against Adams contravene Sections 516 and 390(4)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State 2006. In court, the prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, asked for an adjournment to gather evidence and witnesses for the trial. Adams, who didn't have a lawyer to represent him, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Sunday Adedapo granted Adams bail in the sum of N750,000, with a condition that he must find a surety who will pay the same amount. The surety will need to provide proof of tax payment for the current year and two passport
